Venue follows the decedent’s county of domicile under SCPA 205.
What to Bring to Your Consult
To make the most of 30 minutes, gather what you have:
- The original will, if any (or a copy to start)
- A death certificate, if available
- A list of major assets — the home, accounts, vehicles, a boat, a business
- The names of heirs and beneficiaries
- Any prior estate-planning documents (trusts, powers of attorney)

Your estate will be handled in the Surrogate’s Court of the decedent’s county:
- Nassau County Surrogate’s Court — 262 Old Country Road, Mineola, NY 11501 (516-493-3800), centrally located off the Meadowbrook Parkway.
- Suffolk County Surrogate’s Court — 320 Center Drive, Riverhead, NY 11901 (631-852-1745), on the East End — plan travel time if you’re coming from western Suffolk.
